Application software is any tool that functions and is operated by means of a computer, with the purpose of supporting or improving the software user's work. In other words, is the subclass of computer software that employs the capabilities of a computer directly and thoroughly to a task that the user wishes to perform.

A programming language is an artificial language designed to express computations that can be performed by a machine, particularly a computer. Programming languages can be used to create programs that specify the behavior of a machine, to express algorithms precisely, or as a mode of human communication.

Packages are ready made software designed for a particular purpose. It is relatively cheaper and since it is readily avilable can be installed quickly. Some of the popular packager are :
Word Processing Package
This application software allows the users to create, edit, format, stor, retrive, and print text documents. Word processed also allow the users to insert clip arts, borders find and replace words, spell checking mail merging and many more functions. Mocrosoft Word Word Perfect, Word Star wre some examples of word processing packages.
Spreadsheet
A package designed to perform calculations. It is useful for “what if” caculations. The capability of using different functions and formulas allows spreadsheets to be used in many applications involving accounts, atatistic, and mathematics. Creating graphs and charts could be easily done. Common features include using formulae, formatting text: different data formats, sorting data, graphs and charts. Examples of spreadsheet package are Microsoft Excel, Lotus.
Database Package
A database is a collection of data in an organized manner. The Database Management packages allow the database to be created and customized to meeta user`s needs. The office manual filling cabinet could be replaced with a database management software, and gained many advantages. These packages are easy to maintain, less stor, faster access and search, minimizes data duplication, easy to update and sort, merge and even generate reports. Some examples are Microsoft Access, Paradox.
